Integrating i2Gi™ onto an 8000 Wire Bonder

It is safe to say that any organization utilizing an automated wire bonder continually strives to increase productivity and efficiency. Computer and software performance is vital to maintaining peak production performance, especially for complex hybrid manufacturing. Intelligent Interactive Graphical Interface™ (i2Gi: pronounced “iggy”) was designed to enable application engineers, programmers and operating technicians to work smarter, faster and with more control.

Current 8000 Wire Bonders can be upgraded to implement i2Gi through a Bonder Performance Upgrade (BPU). A BPU brings a bonder up to current software, hardware, and computer performance levels. Palomar Technologies offers many upgrades that will transform productivity by adding the latest and greatest features.

i2Gi: Intelligent Interactive Graphical Interface
i2Gi offers the required management tools for modern wire bonding, from part design and development, to process validation, and finally to intuitive operations control to support automated complex microelectronics packaging and production. Bonder program developers and operators experience real-time bonding and part quality validation. i2Gi technology supports advanced wire bond control through three key critical command tools, which work in concert to provide a dynamic and intuitive user experience.

  1. Part Tree Display: a familiar tree infrastructure displaying parent-child relationships between part elements for quick referencing of part design or program run process
  2. Part Graphical Display: supports a true, graphical representation of the complete design blueprint.
  3. Video Graphical Display: Man-Machine Interface with Cognex 8000 Series Vision engine with real-time video, plus a graphical overlay based upon the program build.

Process Development Consultants Can Help
Current 8000 Wire Bonder owners can upgrade their bonder to implement i2Gi. All of the existing programs on the 8000 are transferrable, so no information will be lost. Additionally, anyone currently using an 8000 can quickly learn i2Gi in two hours or less—this technology was designed for ease of use and compatibility with existing programs. The i2Gi training can be incorporated with a BPU to occur immediately after installation.

Process Development Consultants can make a BPU—like implementing i2Gi on an 8000 Wire Bonder—a simple and seamless transition. Process Development Consulting plays a vital role in many aspects:

1. Advanced training solutions through system and/or process optimization
2. Improved yields with enhanced automation/integration/new tooling and system option deployment coupled with proven processes and materials for the specific application
3. Increased throughput enabled by customized production support and process development
4. Process development, test and prototyping support from Palomar Technologies Process Development Consultants

Examples of Supported i2Gi BPU Configurations
i2Gi offers multiple configuration options with your existing bonder. It can be equipped with (or without) an ergonomic kit, as well as easily integrated with your current production line and handlers.

Automated production line with customizable magazine handlers and hotrail conveyors. This configuration is ideal for high-mix, complex automated production.
