Why Upgrade from a 2200 to a SST 3130? From an Operator’s Perspective

In August last year, we discussed the life cycle cost savings that can be enjoyed by upgrading from old DAP 2200 series soldering furnaces. Saving money and having the peace of mind that comes from owning a reliable, well supported machine are important, but so are the performance enhancements you can use to support your customers’ requirements.

In this blog, we compare the specifications of the two system series so you can see the differences.

The 2200 series models (DAP, DFS, MV, HV, HVWB) were introduced in 1987 and were discontinued in 2001. The model PS-2200 was introduced in 1990 and was discontinued in 1995.
SST cannot support these discontinued models for the following reasons:
1. Replacement components, particularly integrated circuits (ICs), are no longer manufactured by our suppliers.
2. Circuit boards, power packs, Cathode Ray Tubes (CRTs), are obsolete.
3. The 2200 Control System Firmware is no longer maintained.
The SST 3130 Control system is superior to the 2200 Control System:

Tooling cost savings - It’s good to know that DAP 2200 tooling can be used directly and immediately in Model 3130, so there’s no added tooling design and fabrication cost
Profiles can be converted from the DAP 2200 to the Model 3130 by SST so products assembled on the DAP 2200 can easily be transferred to the Model 3130
Gas introduction in a DAP 2200 is imprecise, using regulator and timing, with no gas level chart. In the Model 3130, the pressure level is software programmable, and pressure and temperature charts are provided for each process run.
The Model 3130 stores each completed profile run automatically for subsequent retrieval and can be exported into EXCEL for plotting temperature, pressure, monitoring thermocouplers and heater current

As our industry has moved forward, the requirements and expectations of our customers (and yours!) have changed, requiring reliable, precise equipment to create void-free, flux-free solder joints for high reliability applications. The performance improvements detailed here show that upgrading your old DAP 2200 to a Model 3130 provides a secure, cost effective way to keep your production at peak levels and meet your customers’ needs.
