Path to Prototyping, and into Production: Can you do it?

This week we are looking through the eyes of our Eastern Americas Account Manager, Dale Perry, as he discusses a question he occasionally runs into.

Sometimes, when I initially get involved with a customer’s project they are looking for the answer to one question, “can you do it”? The answer may be a simple, yes or no, based not only on my own experience, but also of the entire Palomar team as I tap into decades of experience and knowledge in this industry. However, being a company that is on the leading edge of complex packaging solutions, the answer is not always that simple. In some cases, the answer may be “I don’t know, but we have a path to find out”. That path is our Assembly Services- Prototyping and Process Development.

Through our Assembly Services Department, we can work with the customer to run tests, experiments, and builds, to help determine the best approach for their particular parts. We can also get a good estimate of what types of throughput and yield the customer can expect. Assembly Services can also select the best system and configuration should the customer decide to bring production in-house. There is a big difference between buying equipment that “may” achieve the results you need, and buying equipment that you know will achieve those results.

I have had the privilege of taking customers through this path and have witnessed that it removes the stress of not knowing the answers to some of these very important questions as well as providing confidence that the customer will be totally satisfied with the equipment. In some cases, we started with initial process development, utilizing our Die Bonders and Wire Bonders to come up with the total solution to building the package.  Assembly Services went to prototyping to ensure the best possible setups of the equipment to get the best yield and throughput. From there, we went to low –mid volume production, allowing the customer to penetrate new markets without large capital investments. Some customers continue to have Assembly Services build their products for years. We also have had several customers purchase the identical “equipment set” used in Assembly Services to bring the production into their facility.

This can be a path for people who are getting the “I don’t know” answer. Palomar Technologies Assembly Services will let you know upfront what we can and can’t do and will work with you to create the best solution for your needs.
