Happy New Year from Palomar Technologies' CEO

As the semiconductor industry continues to develop new technologies, our weekly blog provides a lens into the viewpoints and expertise of some of the industry’s leading engineers and technical liaisons. Thank you for your subscription to the PTI Blog and your support of this growing online resource.

There is much to be thankful for as we close out this year. While challenges abounded, accomplishments have been hard-earned and well-deserved by the Palomar team. Palomar acquired a new a new company (SST International), launched the 9000 Wedge Bonder and the 3880 Die Bonder, completed our ISO recertification, and our contract assembly services continues to establish Palomar’s uniquely competitive advantage.

We are optimistically looking foward to the coming year. Palomar is firmly central to the telecommunications infrastructure; we will be supporting worldwide predictions that there will be 33 billion internet-connected devices worldwide by 2020--roughly meaning each person will have more than four devices, on average. It is also forecasted that many of those devices will be wearable, such as next-generation smartwatches, smart wristbands, and embedded sensors in clothing and other accessories.

Certainly we see dramatic shifts in demographics, globalization, and a deepening level of connectivity as trends are shaping tomorrow. Beyond the traditional telecommunications and military markets, we see the Internet-of-Things (IoT) separating into different applications. The spread of mobile devices and the explosive growth of the internet have accelerated both the market and application development of the Internet of Things. We read about smart homes, smart cities, and the much-discussed Industry 4.0 as some of the fields are seeing the implementation of IoT-related technologies.

We at Palomar are acutely aware that the emergence and evolution of any package technology is driven by market trends as experienced by the end application. This is why Palomar’s systems, process expertise, and customer support are globally positioned at the forefront of packaging technology. In the coming year, Palomar is well prepared to tackle the ongoing transformations and adjustments that will continue to be challenges for our industry.

Again, thank you for your subscription and continued participation on the PTI Blog. We look forward to sharing and connecting with you throughout the New Year!

I wish you a happy and healthy start to 2016.

Best regards,
